Stop artrocities on dalits
Petitioning: State and Central Governments
Petitioner: Petition Voice started on April 3, 2009
The recent cases caste based violence against dalits are cases of huge concern. Resurgence of cruelty in Khairlanji in Maharashtra, lynchings in Haryana, torture of Bant Singh in Punjab, rape of a 5 year old minor dalit girl in UP are just the tip of the iceberg about dalit atrocity. There are many more cases which either go unreported or do not come in media's limelight.
These attacks on dalits are unleashed by hindu extremists and are grossly unaccounted. Leave aside police taking appropriate actions, they have stalled the filing of FIR in some cases. It is the legal and moral responsibility of the administration and local police to protect the innocent dalits. Otherwise a farce is made of Indian democracy.
Home Minister should take up the cases if state governments are not able to tackle them on their own. Stern actions against rogue states, law defying policemen and the people involved in the crime would set a good example for others to refrain from mindless and illogical violence.
Also the victims and their families that were affected must be completely rehabilitated and compensated for the loss of their loved one's.
