Rewrite our History books

I live in the UK and have lived out of India for 27 years now. Luckily for me I have been able to travel back to India often over these years and believe India to be my first home. But, having lived abroad for so long I have remarked how little we know of ourselves that hasn't had a foreigners slant on it. I have been resisting studying Indian Art & Architecture for years now because not a single book available in the foreign markets has been written by an Indian , let alone studied at SOAS or the V&A. Sure most of our Litreature, artistic manuscripts and truck loads of statues and jewels adorn every great museum in the world and are part of any private collectors dream collection, but the history behind each piece of jewellery, statue and manuscript has been either written or made renown by a foreigner. Why would Shakespeare or Wordsworth written by Arvind Adiga , Vikram Seth , Arundhati Rao or for that matter Mahatma Gandhi be taught in schools in the UK or other western countries? So how come apart from editing and publishing our History books , studied by millions of our youngsters are being peddled with the same angle year in year out in mainstream education in our prestigious schools and institutions??
We have the oldest living tradition in culture, art, religion, culinary prowess , philosophy & religion, one could go on but still we lack self belief to say WE CAN GO IT ALONE.
Please sign this petition and let's start some where and that somewhere is our extensive History, with our heroes and heroines , phenomenal Litreature , architecture. Let us start by knowing the great historians, leaders of Tamil Nadu , Karnataka and other states. We need to learn more about the wealth on our doorstep , about our immediate neighbours, Tamils, Punjabis, Telegus etc. Etc. Let us start with our HISTORY, the History of Bharat.
