Put a Check on the Dropout Rate from Colleges
Petitioning: Institutes and AICTE
Petitioner: Petition Voice started on March 3, 2009
Recently, too many engineering students are facing backlogs and are dropping out eventually from the institutes. The dropout rate is alarmingly high in some colleges. If a few students drop out then it is understandably a personal issue, but if there are too many dropouts from the same colleges or in the same regions then there must be something more than personal issue of students. The institutes really need to look into the system and determine the reasons. A survey to start with would help in determining the students' perceptions. It usually is a miscommunication and misunderstanding of expectations between the faculties and the students. Instead of allowing failing students to drop out, they can be counselled into falling back in line, and/or provided with additional coaching to overcome difficulties they face in learning, if any. So many frustrated, partially educated and 'left-with-no-degree-but-a-dropout-label' young people will do no good to the economy or the country. This petition is to appeal the whole system (administration, faculty, students and parents) to sit together and discuss ways to remove, firstly the misunderstandings on either sides, and secondly to rectify the current scenario.
