Number of engineering seats has reached the order of over a lakh of them in the country. Whereas, on the other hand medical seats for MBBS are limited to a few lousy thousands only. It is understandable that medical practice is a serious business and hence the whole (post-)gradation needs to be very micromanaged. Wannabe doctors need every minute attention of their professors they can get, without which getting each one trained well enough in their profession would be next to impossible. This required bringing down the batch sizes and the group sizes for practical work. But government must find some ways to increase the seats of medical colleges to some extent. If student strength of current institutions cannot be increased, then may be expanding them or opening new institutes can help. This will help in bringing to order the crisis of doctors across the country. The patients-to-doctor ratio is very unhealthy in India, especially in government funded public hospitals. Lots of seats are lying vacant and vacancies cannot be filled because of lack of sufficient applicants.
