Adding DEFENSE ART to the Education System!

This petition is exclusively to bring about a change in the society especially after the gruesome Delhi gang-rape case.

We (most of us) have always believed that education is the most powerful tool a society can have. So why not use this tool the right way? This petition is directly in regard to what have been happening in the Indian society for many years but has not been focused on a large scale until recently--- the harassment of women, rape, molestation, even domestic violence and their safety!

Just like thousands of people in India, my heart cried rivers for the brave yet helpless girl named "Nirbhaya" by the Times of India. I wonder what her parents must be going through and wonder how her boyfriend must be feeling of being helpless and not able to protect the girl from the insensible and cruel mentality of the six men! Everyone's life will move on but the situation might not change unless we take a step--- a step towards progress, step towards better change to make this world a place worth living 'safely'!

Where most of us would like to talk (and ridiculously comment) on how a woman should dress, walk and talk, and how men should behave, I would like to sincerely request the government of India and the education ministry to include DEFENSE ART AS A COMPULSORY PRACTICAL SUBJECT for all the students from standard one (where most kids are age 6).

Apart from the moral and ethical teachings provided in our families and schools, which I wonder how many of us stand by it in the toughest times of our lives, I sincerely believe that SELF-PROTECTION and SELF-DEFENSE would play a vital role in the safety of women (as well as men).

Hence, as a responsible citizen of India I take this step to try to protect sisters, mothers, daughters, nieces and grandmothers. This is the max I can do after mourning over the death of not just Nirbhaya but also the death of shame within most of us!

I need your support for us to be safe by ourselves rather than wait for someone to come for the rescue.

It is hard to change the psychology of someone and stop them from carrying out such gruesome acts, but if taken some efforts it might not be too hard to DEFEND OURSELVES!
