REVIVAL OF CENTRAL BUS STATION, TRIVANDRUM

The 65 crore building project which is a 12 storied complex, constructed under the BOT(Built-Operate-Transfer) concept owned by KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation), came up on 3rd February 2014 in the centre of the city opposite to the Central Railway Station. The building was constructed on an elevated area of land in order to prevent water logging using a huge investment and better technologies that can accommodate around 330 cars and 500 two-wheelers. It was promised by the government to establish the building in full swing on 4th February 2015. Only the ground floor of the building is being used daily by over 94,000 passengers as ticketing counter, bus bays for arrival and departure. An unused building is an unsafe for the people using the terminus in the early morning and late night. But once the place is felt secure, more people would prefer to use it and if there are more people in a space, more commercial activities takes place. The building intended for commercial purposes, with a Central lobby and 5 storey multilevel Parking spaces, spaces provided for setting up offices and other institution in fourth floor and there was a proposal of a flyover which connects the Central Bus Station(CBS) to the Central Railway station to avoid hassle free roads. Recently there was few news that the building is proposed to accommodate spaces like multiplex theatres with two screens along with a food court and gymnasium and another news about the hygiene of the rooms and bathrooms; rats and snakes are constant threats due to the improper maintenance of the surroundings of the building. The building has become a identity in the city within these few years and a place like a bus terminus which will is active all throughout the day should remain safe for the public and should be user-friendly. And it is high time that the government or respective authorities should takes initiative to start the functioning of the building.
