The Horrifying Pollution Levels

The picture is not photoshopped or edited. In addition to displaying the horrible levels of pollution in Delhi, it marks a bleak reality of our times. Are we not even capable of understanding what threatens and effects our existence as individuals on this planet? Are we truly this indifferent towards what is unfavorable towards our everyday living?
The smog levels in our national capital are worst in 17 years. About 10 lakh students have to skip schools. The pollution levels are 15 times the safe limit. Thousands of people already suffering from respiratory ailments are under turmoil. Is it really a good way to celebrate the homecoming of Lord Rama? Is bursting fire crackers the best way to celebrate Diwali? Even from a religious point of view, would Lord Rama appreciate this constant smog of bad health and disgust emanating from the persistent negligence of our civic responsibilities?
The custom of bursting crackers during Diwali is merely a couple of centuries old. There is no reason why we cannot put an end it. I am sure there might be economic problems for those engaged in the crackers manufacturing industries. But then, when pondered over, a convenient solution can be chalked out. This petition is an appeal to the Govt. of India to put a ban to the constant, careless, and even cruel oppression of respiratory health, and urge them to come out a with a solution to engage those whose livelihood will be disrupted by this ban. It is high time we act smartly towards our present and future. Because if we don't, there might not be a future worth living in.
