Dear All:
I call upon everyone who feels uneasy everytime you surf news channels after seeing the crap dished out by news channels in the name of TV journalism. TV, owing to its reach and impact has an onerous task of living upto the basic common standards of reporting. However, offlate that battle for eyeballs has led most of the hindi news channels to broadcast news items in a manner that not only leaves me worried about its impact on the families and children but also at society at large. I realised it only after watching a news item on India TV wherein the reported reconstructed the entire event of a mother killing her 8 month old son inside a washing machine. That event played out for full 20 minutes when it could have been reported in a minute. Instead of focussing on the news item, channel tried to extract maximum mileage by creating a sensation around an unfortunate incident. God knows what prompted that mother to kill her infant son but the manner in which it was shown on TV makes Rajat Sharma an equally responsible person. You may recollect many such instances of bad reporting. Time has come for us to raise our voice against these people who are trying to make money by encashing a negative news by creating a sensation around an incident. For God's sake they need to understand that a news channel is more about informing the general public about the latest happenings and not about creating sensations. We need to stop this sensationalisation of news. Please raise your voice and let's petition the Govt to come out with news broadcasting standards.
Regards
Alok
