Recently HRD ministry enforced reservations in faculty positions in institutes other than those of higher learning. The recommendations of parliament's own committees and other academic experts is completely sidelined. This is a disgrace for HRD ministry and a taunt to the members of faculty who have brought this reputation to not just their institutes but to the country itself, through their students. Students, faculty members, alumni and analysts have all appealed against bringing any caste based reservations in teaching, in any institute of any standing. The excellance can only be achieved through merit and caste has nothing to do with it. By exempting 47 institutes of higher learning the HRD ministry has directly accepted the fact that such reservations are not good for the overall well-being of students and for the high level of standards to be met. So does the ministry want students of other institutes to remain under-achievers? Lets appeal to the politicians to be common sensical and drop vote bank policies at least in the education sector. Let only the knowledge prevail.
