Dear fellow humans
As a person from the fisherman family and also a fellow human being am sending out this petition.
When a farmer dies it becomes a national news. When a girl gets abused the whole nation raises their voices. When someone's given a death sentence in India all the human rights organisations throughout the country fight against the decision. When a fishermen gets arrested or killed by the Srilankans, the news doesn't even reach the neighboring state.
In a year, whether it rains or not, there's always some fishermen getting shot at or arrested.
And when 5 tamil fishermen got arrested by the Srilankan government in 2011 and falsely convicted them with drug trafficking there was no action taken against it. Now they have been sentenced to death and many people are not even aware of it. There is a law that says if a person works in a land for a long time then he can claim the land to himself. Does that mean the sea belong to the fishermen community? they are not asking money or share of the sea, all they are asking is for the right to fish in the seas for their living.
If its a crime, tell us why? If its not a crime then why are they arrested and sentenced?
There are sons and daughters of these arrested fishermen who are waiting to see their father's face, mothers who are waiting for their sons.
When they got arrested we never did anything to oppose them. Now they'r keeping knives on their necks and saying we cant do anything.
What are we going to do? Should they be our own sons or fathers or husband or brothers to raise our voice against it? Cant they be our neighbors, friends or maybe another fellow human?
This am sending out to all you people expecting your valuable support to save 5 innocent lives.
Please show your support and cast your signature and lets all hope we get justice soon.
