Petitioning: FEE STRUCTURE SRM UNIVERSITY CHENNAI

Petitioner: KULDEEP SINGH started on May 22, 2016

Now-a-days Deemed universities and private universities are run more like business houses than educational centres. It is fact that the increasing educational needs can be met only by private universities but many of them are not disciplinary functions. The private universities encash the student's hunger for higher education and after over a period of time, builds the empire throughout the country. MHRD ,UGC and AICTE and State Technical Education Deptt should not allow these universities to only charge the fee proportionate to their expenditure on infrastructure and salary of the staff. The suffering I faced with SRM University due to fee structure is here mentioned:-
My son was provisionally selected in the SRM counselling conducted on 19 May 16 for admission in B Tech -Civil Engineering [ UG-FT-ACADEMIC] for 2016-17 in campus Faculty of Engineering and /Technology, Kattankulathur Chennai. An amount of Rs. 1,50,000/- (Tuition fee) and 10,000/- (Registration fee) was paid on 19 May 16. Rest of payment for an amount of Rs.55,000/-.was to be paid on or before 02 Jun 16. But On declaration CBSE result on 21 May 16 he secured 56% marks in PCM and does not qualify for admission.
I applied for refund my whole amount as my son did not fulfill the condition of minimum qualifying marks in PCM which as per university rule is 65% .Moreover there are still plenty of civil Engineering seats are available in all the campus thus no aspiring candidates lose the seat due to my son's provisionally registration. As per UGC policy only Rs.1,000 can be deducted on cancellation/withdrawl.But SRM university chennai is refunding the amount after deducting the 10,000/- whereas as per UGC policy 1,000/- to be deducted. I suggest that private Universityshould not be allowed to conduct counselling process before declaration of JEE Advance and CBSE Board and the state board where university campus is located. It is just like pre-launch scheme of selling the flats/plots. When a farmer goes to the market he is compelled to sell his produce at govt rates and these universities on the name of imparting education to the society and collecting the huge mass of wealth and set up college one after another but not reducing the fee. It is the duty of the Govt institution to keep a eye on the fee structure so that these universities charges fare and sensible.
