Do Not Rename West Bengal University of Technology

The Government of West Bengal has decided to change name of "West Bengal University of Technology".
The new proposed name is "Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology".

We do have deep respect for Dr. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and his contributions in the field of education and India's freedom struggle, but renaming an established university, which is internationally acclaimed, makes no sense.

West Bengal University of Technology is a strong and internationally known brand today. It's students have made a place for themselves globally. What happens to their degrees and certificates? All international universities and immigration authorities know about West Bengal University of Technology very well today. Changing it's name will wipe out its identity in the international arena. It is too late to change the name of the university now. This is not a company or a street whose name can be amended easily as many times post required formalities. As a token of our respect and tribute to Dr. Azad, the Government of West Bengal can establish a new university after his name, which will also strengthen our education system further, but changing the name of an existing well known and established university will bring no good to anyone.

Please do not change the name of West Bengal University of Technology. Please let it be as it is. Requesting all students of the University to please support this petition.
